OXLOS - THE FIRST TRULY DEMOCRATIC CROWDFONT
What if a crowd designed a font? In his diploma project, Maximilian Mauracher launched this experiment: LET’S DEMOCRATIZE TYPE DESIGN.
In Phase 1 more than 5000 users voted on a total of 18 typographic parameters that define a font.
In Phase 2 the font was designed, in precise accordance with the crowd’s majority decisions. In this project phase, the website served as a blog, documenting the design process as transparently as possible and offering background information on font design in general and on the development of this particular font to a community built previously via social media and newsletters.
In Phase 3 the font and its entire development process were presented in an online specimen and made available as a free download.
